The free propagation microwaves training bench, ref. PED 022 150, enables to carry out a wide range of experiments on electromagnetic waves, including the analogy with Optics phenomena.

The main possible experiments are: goniometry, diffraction & interferencies at hyperfrequency wavelength scale: l = 3 cm (10 000 MHz).
The generality of rules governing the wave phenomena is verified, by comparison with the optical phenomena (optical
electromagnetic waves with wavelengths of of some hundredths of nanometers), sound waves or mechanical waves.

On the other hand, this unit enables the training on transmitter, antenna or reception diode phenomena.

• Wave propagation & reflection (Descartes’ Law)
• Study of the prism, deviation minimum angle, refraction index (dielectric constant)
• Slot diffraction
• Interference & diffraction by dual or multiple slot (network)
• Polarisation: Malus’ Law, reflector polarization
• Antenna diagram.
